It was somewhere towards the end of last season that I gradually realised that Leicester City were the team I most looked forward to watching live. They have a really exciting crop of ball-playing footballers all over the park, and a couple of players who feel like they are on the verge of a real breakthrough to the top top tier.

Kasper Schmeichel remains a real rock at the back of the team – both in terms of his quality and the influence he seems to have over the team as a whole.

In front of him is where the only real question mark lies for Leicester – without an obvious replacement coming in for the departing Maguire, they may need to enter games with a ‘score one more than you’ mentality. The temperance to that is Hamza Choudhury, who I have marked as a candidate for a possible explosion onto the Premier League after a series of very assured performances last year.

If the defence does prove to be their undoing, then Leicester’s making will be in the combination of Tielemans, Barnes, Maddison, Grey, Perez and Vardy – a clutch of very exciting players indeed, all of whom proved last season that they can perform at the very highest level.

The back end of last season started to give me a real feeling of togetherness and enjoyment in this Leicester team that was previously made famous by that title-winning side. I feel that may be a step too far for this one, but I fully expect them to continue making waves and gaining new fans.
