The best-kept-secret are a secret no more. A stunning emergence onto the scene last year sees us arrive at the trickiest of second albums for NES and the crew.

Probably most importantly for this squad – they saw an offseason come and go without any of their start players or board having their heads turned by bigger clubs coming calling. That is so often the fate for teams who springboard on the back of relative unknowns bursting into the spotlight, but Wolves doubled down in securing Dendoncker and Jiménez on permanent deals.

What went mostly unacknowledged last year was the quality shown in their defence – so while their attacking performances were rightly being lauded, it would be a repeat season from Cody, Boly, Jonny and Doherty that will likely steer Wolves back up to the top third of the table.

Some intriguing additions have been sprinkled into the squad, and will be interesting to see if Cutrone, Neto and Jordao can show to have flown under the radar as Jimenez, Jota and Neves did before them.

Between Wolves, Everton and Leicester there is so much promise and optimism that I feel at least one of them could be this season’s biggest disappointment. Right now I’m willing to stick my neck out that that won’t be Wolves and that if anything they have a chance to cause further ructions up at the business end of the league.
